Cathedral’s educational program is designed to offer students a broad range of experiences. These experiences underpin their capacity to become successful learners, both during their school years and beyond. The program addresses outcomes specified in the Australian Curriculum and by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and an extensive range of studies is offered to students to cater for the diverse range of talents, ambitions and interests from Years Seven to Twelve.
The strong core developed in the Middle School is offered in increasing depth, as students progress until they select their VCE program from over 30 VCE Studies. Preparation for the VCE program commences in Year Nine. At this level, we work with students to determine the academic program that best suits them.
To help prepare for Year Eleven and Year Twelve, our Year Nine students participate in Student Pathways interviews to help guide and support students in choosing subjects for Year Ten and the VCE. Year Ten students participate in a week of Work Experience as well as have the opportunity to fast track VCE subjects should they wish. Academic programs are complemented by an extensive careers program designed to develop the key skills required for Tertiary study and job opportunities.
Students consider the types of careers in which they may be interested, and participate in one week of Work Experience. From this, they draw an understanding of approaching a business and organising a placement along with general work habits, such as punctuality, appropriate dressing and applying oneself to a task. Through individual mentoring and one timetabled Semester of Work Education studies, students consider their skills and interests, investigate possible career paths and learn what requirements they must meet in order to enter a particular field of choice.
In VCE, students have the opportunity to enrol in Distance Education or VET subjects, as well as to complete their VCE. Students are empowered with the skills of social responsibility and the capacity to make significant contribution to the community and to determine the direction of their lives. Our VCE Subject offerings ensure students will be able to access post Tertiary education as well as giving a diverse and broad education to the individual.
