Students are involved in their learning from their very first day in the Junior School and they are encouraged to be creative and curious, to collaborate with others and to learn by ‘doing’. We understand the importance of students having opportunities to embrace a love of learning and be involved in all aspects of their schooling, be they academic, sporting, musical, artistic or social.
At Cathedral we allow children to develop their skills and knowledge, we challenge students to become confident decision makers and we encourage them to nurture their own ideas with due respect for others and the environment. A strong emphasis is placed upon the basic skills pertaining to English and Mathematics. Reading, spelling, grammar, punctuation and handwriting are core literacy skills that students will be taught. Numeracy skills such as counting, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication are of paramount importance.
To further consolidate these skills, the students will have numerous opportunities to apply their Mathematics and English knowledge in real-life problem solving situations. Students are encouraged to access opportunities in developing their individual interests alongside the class curriculum. Integrated or holistic learning provides comprehensive coverage across all Teaching and Learning Areas (TLAs), while maintaining the integrity of each. The extensive curriculum offering provided in the Junior School consists of:
- Physical Education & Health
- Perceptual Motor Program (PMP)
